5 Not-So-Great, Not-So-Epic, Not-So-Eye-Catching Opening Lines

1. "Don't you always hate it when your receiver is a little glitchy is the middle of a conversation?" said Leona. "Try in the middle of a war zone," said James distractedly.

2. With the neuro-implants these days, there is always someone listening. Wherever you are, whenever you are, the Lines are listening to your thoughts.

3. Demoxia, on the Third Moon, used to be a wonderful place, full of life, danger, happiness, and sadness. But not anymore, not after the Revelation and the Surge…it’s just dead now, or at least overrun.

4. “…why so serious?”

“Stop copying.”

“But…that’s what I am programed to do!”

“And I am programed to tell you to stop.”

5. Gene, the life blood and blue print for human development, contains all the information necessary to create, maintain, and recreate our species. Yet, only 2% of our genetic information is actively expressed in our daily lives; so much of it are simply…quiet, dormant, counting down, and waiting for the proper time, to utterly change us and the precious society we built.

I know some of these are over the 2-line limit…but I can’t help it… (The last one isn’t, thought. It’s just long)

I actually think your first item has potential… it does a great job of setting up a mood of the situation as well as revealing a bit of personality of the two characters.
